Pre-Fins Group

Pre-fins is a great way to keep your child active this year while introducing them to Dolphin Club swim team program! Practices are run as a hybrid between a swim team practice and group swim lessons. This gives the swimmers more personal attention from our coaches to improve their strokes, while also giving them a taste of the competitive swimming world. We will be holding fun intra-squad meets at the JCC throughout the year. The Pre-fins program emphasizes learning, fitness, and fun!

Aqua Fit Bootcamp

January - August

Ages 18+

This class mixes callisthenic exercises with interval cardio and strength training in a pool environment. The entire length of the lap pool is used from the shallow to the deep end. Deep water aqua belts will be worn, kickboards, aqua fitness barbells, and noodles will all be utilized throughout your workout.

Exercises will consist of swimming, aerobic arm and leg movements, and other various callisthenic exercises in and out of the water. Pump-up your workout with this medium to high intensity class guaranteed to keep you moving and burning those calories while minimizing the stress on your joints!

Tabata Training with Amy!

Wednesday Morning Classes Available

Join Amy for a shallow water Tabata workout. Her Tabata workout consists of 30 minutes of interval training that is a total body cardio blast! She will balance out this high energy workout with 15 minutes of mindful stretching designed to improve muscular flexibility and joint range of motion.

Our swim lessons are customized to meet the participant’s needs and availability. Instructors use a gentle, encouraging approach that enables students to overcome fear of the water or set personal goals and progress quickly.

Parent and Child Aquatics Level 1

January - May

6 months – 3 years

Level 1 introduces basic skills to parents and children. Parents learn how to safely work with their child in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold their child in the water and how to prepare and encourage their child to participate fully and try the skills. Children receive an introduction to basic skills that lay a foundation for learning to swim. In addition, parents are introduced to several water safety topics.

Parent and Child Aquatics Level 2

Parent and Child Aquatics Level 2 builds on the skills introduced in Level 1. Participants improve on these skills and learn more advanced skills in Level 2. As with Level 1, water safety topics are also included in this level.

Preschool Aquatics Level 1

Level 1 orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatics skills. These skills include entering and exiting the water, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, submerging mouth, nose and eyes, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front and back gliding, back floating, rolling from front to back and back to front, treading water, alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on front and back,

Preschool Aquatics Level 2

3 - 5

Level 2 helps children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around water. Skills to be taught include entering and exiting the water, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front floating, back gliding and floating,
rolling from front to back and back to front, treading water using arms and legs, combining arm and leg actions on front and back, finning arm action on back and age-appropriate water safety skills.

Preschool Aquatics Level 3

Preschool Level 3 helps children start to gain basic swimming propulsive skills to be comfortable in and around water. Skills to be taught include entering the water, fully submerging, and holding breath in the water, bobbing, rotary breathing, front, jellyfish, and tuck floating, front
and back floating or gliding with recoveries, changing direction of travel while swimming on front and back, finning arm action on back and age-appropriate water safety topics.

Level 1: Learn to Swim

This class is for the first-time swimmer that doesn’t know how to swim. Skills to be taught in this level include entering and exiting the water, blowing bubbles, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front and back gliding, back floating, rolling from
front to back and back to front, treading water, alternating simultaneous arm and leg actions in front and back, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age-appropriate water safety topics.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatics Skills

This class is for the child who can swim independently and has not mastered his/her stroke techniques. Skills to be taught include entering and exiting the water, submerging, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front, jellyfish, and tuck floating, front kicking and gliding, back kicking, and gliding, rolling from front to back and back to front, rotary breathing, treading water, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age- appropriate water safety skills.

Level 3: Stroke Development

Ages 5+

The objectives of Learn-to-Swim Level 3 are to expand proficiency of previously learned skills by
providing additional guided practice. Participants learn and practice survival floating and learn
to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency levels. We begin
introduction of the scissors and dolphin kicks and extend the time duration for treading water.
Participants also learn rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst

from a seated position at poolside. As in all levels, new and previously addressed water safety
topics are included. Participants who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water
competency in a pool environment.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement (equivalent to Pre-Fins Beg. Novice)

In Learn-to-Swim Level 4, participants improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 (i.e., front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances and with more advanced proficiency. Participants add arm actions to the previously
learned scissors kick and breaststroke kick to perform the rudimentary sidestroke and to learn the breaststroke. Participants also begin to learn the back crawl and butterfly, as well as the basics of performing a simple open turn at a wall.

Dolphin Club Swim Team - Level 1 / Dolphin

Sunday, Monday-Thursday

Level 1 is our introductory Dolphin group for 9- to 12-year-old swimmers as well as advanced 7- 8-year-old swimmers. The Dolphin Group focuses on teaching the basics of all 4 competitive strokes and starts and turns in a fun, challenging environment.  Coaches will emphasize proper stroke technique, starts, and turns, and building cardiovascular endurance through drills, sets and enjoyable activities. 

Dolphin Club Swim Team - Level 2 / Wahoo

Ages 9-14

Level 2 Wahoo Group is designed for swimmers with previous swim team experience who are legal in all four strokes, know how to perform all starts & turns, as well as read the pace clock. The Wahoo Group will continue to work on stroke technique while introducing race strategies in practice by learning and performing stroke-specific drills during practice.  

Dolphin Club Swim Team - Level 3 / Sailfish

There has been something special happening here at the Weinstein JCC with the Dolphin Club Swimming program. With the “Fin Family”, athletes can experience competitive swimming in an environment that facilitates self-confidence, teaches patience throughout a process, and encourages positive relationship building.
