Originally created 2,500 years ago as a unilateral marriage contract stating what a groom would provide for his bride, the ketubah evolved from the tenth century onward into a richly decorated expression of love and commitment. In connection with the book, Ketubah Renaissance: The Artful Modern Revival of the Jewish Marriage Contract by Michael Shapiro, founder of Ketubah.com, the world’s leading Ketubah publisher, this exhibit illuminates the contemporary revival of the marriage contract and displays the beautiful and innovative ketubot created by local artisans. Books will be available for purchase.

Guys and Dolls is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. When it opened on Broadway in 1950, Guys and Dolls ran for 1,200 performances, receiving nearly unanimous positive reviews from critics and winning a bevy of awards, including Tony Awards, Drama Desks and Oliviers. Frequently revived, the show has been done with numerous all-star casts, including productions/concerts featuring Ewan McGregor, Jane Krakowski, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jessica Biel. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. Eventually everyone ends up right where they belong!

JPrideRVA - Ancestral Allyship

Thursday, June 11

7:00 PM

Ancestral Allyship, a new book by Rabbi Mike Moskowitz, is rooted in the knowledge that how we treat each other defines our religious identity. Allyship is often seen as a response by someone of privilege to the oppression or affliction of another. This is only necessary when the unity of our humanity has already broken down. In the Jewish tradition, we are obligated to proactively prevent this breakdown. When we attach ourselves to God’s expectations of ethical living, cleaving to an ideal way of being, we strive to create a world free from all forms of dehumanization. This book helps us to move closer toward it.
Books will be available for purchase and book signing to follow.
