Connected With Israel

Our Center has a unique ability and responsibility to create real and meaningful connections to Israel for our members and for the larger community. Israel is an integral part of the Jewish identity, and as such, is part of the J in JCC. We celebrate Israel through culture, music, film, dance and conversation.

In our summer camps, the Weinstein JCC is committed to creating vibrant and engaged Jewish community, and fostering a connection to Israel is an important piece of that work. We do this by creating environments that explore the richness of Israeli society and by creating personal and meaningful people-to-people connections through shlichim, Israeli camp staff. Each year two Israelis spend their summer at Weinstein JCC Summer Camps, bringing Israel to life for our campers, many of whom have never been to Israel before. At camp, shlichim serve as counselors and specialists in areas such as Israeli culture, music, arts and crafts, sports, Hebrew, Israeli folk dance, nature and more!

Richmond area families host shlichim for their time in the community, providing deeper connections and ties to Israel for the entire family. The impact of a shaliach, Israel staff member, extends beyond camp into an entire community. Day camp shlichim literally become part of the camp family by living with local host families and being a part of the community at large.

Our Summer Shlichim (emissaries) Program is made possible by a partnership between the JCC Association, The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), and funding provided by the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.

The Weinstein JCC is committed to being a primary destination for all aspects of Jewish engagement and convening important conversations.
