This class under the direction of Richmond Urban Dance is a class designed for students that want to learn the fundamentals of hip hop dance. It focuses on basic technique and skills, as well as learning choreography. Each class builds on the one prior. This class is for boys and girls.

Ballet technique and terminology are introduced in this beginner’s class. Students will begin to work at the barre and learn ballet positions and combinations through music and stories. Leotard, tights, and ballet slippers required for this year-round class.

Kids' Night Out!

February 14 & March 7

Saturdays @ 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Grades: K-5

Drop off your K-5th grader for a fun Saturday night at the J! Kids can choose between swimming or games in the gym, enjoy a delicious spaghetti dinner, and indulge in an ice cream sundae party. The evening wraps up with a movie! We have dates available each month in January, February, and March. Rest easy knowing our trained Kids’ Place staff will be there to supervise throughout the night.

The Pottery Club program is designed to introduce children to the art of clay handbuilding. Each week, students will explore new pottery techniques – pinch, coil, slab – while working on themed projects that are fun, age-appropriate and imaginative. The program emphasizes creativity, tactile learning and self-expression while giving children the excitement of taking home glazed and kiln-fire ceramic pieces they will treasure.

Calling all middle-schoolers, come hang out twice a month on Sundays for Ruach & Recreation, a brand-new, vibrant, meaningful, and movement-filled Jewish youth program, tailored for middle schoolers. Attendees will participate in age-appropriate activities that will provide social interaction, promote physical and emotional wellbeing and focus on community and service, all through a Jewish lens. Events will take place at the Weinstein JCC as well as other locations within the Richmond area.

Level 1: Learn to Swim

This class is for the first-time swimmer that doesn’t know how to swim. Skills to be taught in this level include entering and exiting the water, blowing bubbles, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front and back gliding, back floating, rolling from
front to back and back to front, treading water, alternating simultaneous arm and leg actions in front and back, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age-appropriate water safety topics.

This class is for the child who can swim independently and has not mastered his/her stroke techniques. Skills to be taught include entering and exiting the water, submerging, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front, jellyfish, and tuck floating, front kicking and gliding, back kicking, and gliding, rolling from front to back and back to front, rotary breathing, treading water, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age- appropriate water safety skills.

Level 3: Stroke Development

The objectives of Learn-to-Swim Level 3 are to expand proficiency of previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice. Participants learn and practice survival floating and learn to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency levels. We begin introduction of the scissors and dolphin kicks and extend the time duration for treading water. Participants also learn rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside. As in all levels, new and previously addressed water safety topics are included. Participants who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water competency in a pool environment.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to build your child’s Ivrit (Hebrew) skills. Offered as a pilot program in partnership with Temple Beth-El.

Pickleball is for all ages! As one of the fastest growing sports in America it is never to early to learn the life skill of pickleball. This kids pickleball clinic will introduce your athlete to the basics of pickleball; including dinking, drives, serving, returns and accuracy drills. We will also start to learn about match play and understanding scoring, but with the focus on having fun!
