Judaic Art Program at the Weinstein JCC

Middle Schoolers

Middle school students are invited to create a collaborative and interactive art piece to be presented and displayed during the Global Day of Learning event held at the JCC on November 13, 2022. The 6-8th graders will be guided to form their own concepts of social justice while responding to this year’s Global Day of Jewish Learning theme of rebuilding. Later the interactive art piece will be moved to the Virginia Holocaust Museum.

Level 1: Learn to Swim

October 2 – November 20

Sundays @ 12:00PM - 12:30PM

Ages 5+

This class is for the first-time swimmer that doesn’t know how to swim.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatics Skills

October 2 – November 20

Sundays @ 12:00PM - 12:30PM

Ages 5+

This class is for the child who can swim independently and has not mastered his/her stroke techniques.

Level 3: Stroke Development

October 2 – November 20

Sundays @ 1:30PM - 2:00PM

Ages 5+

The objectives of Learn-to-Swim Level 3 are to expand proficiency of previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice. As in all levels, new and previously addressed water safety topics are included. Participants who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water competency in a pool environment.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement

October 2 – November 20

Sundays @ 1:30PM - 2:00PM

Ages 5+

In Learn-to-Swim Level 4, participants improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 (i.e., front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances and with more advanced proficiency.

Ballet II

October 3 - April 24 (no class on select dates; check class schedule)

Mondays @ 5:30PM - 6:30PM

Ages 8-12

Students will be introduced to ballet technique and terminology with an emphasis on proper body alignment and an understanding of the dancer’s anatomy to achieve balance, strength, control, extension, and expression. The Dance Recital will be held April 30, 2023.

Power for Kids and Teens

October 4 - November 29 (no class on November 22)

Tuesdays @ 5:00PM - 5:45PM

Ages 10-14

Power for Kids & Teens is a strength and conditioning program that is specifically designed for kids and teenagers to help them develop a lifelong love of fitness. In a group setting, children and teens participate in fun and engaging workouts that deliver measurable results and prepare them to be well-rounded athletes. This class is perfect for learning effective exercise as well as conditioning to prepare for sports seasons.

Teen Fitness Center Orientation

October 7, October 14

Fridays @ 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Ages 13-15

Does your teen want to come workout in the fitness center? Plan to attend this 2-session program to learn fitness center basics including proper etiquette and technique. Teens ages 13-15 must have training with fitness center staff to be able to work out in the fitness center. Free for fitness center members.

Dolphin Club Swim Team

There has been something special happening here at the Weinstein JCC with the Dolphin Club Swimming program. With the “Fin Family”, athletes can experience competitive swimming in an environment that facilitates self-confidence, teaches patience throughout a process, and encourages positive relationship building.
