Kids' Night Out

Drop off your K-5 th graders for a fun, Saturday night at the J! Kids will choose between swim time or gym games and enjoy spaghetti dinner, ice cream sundae party, and a movie. Our trained Kids’ Place staff will supervise them throughout the night.

Family Fun Fall Sports League

October 15 – December 10

Preschool - 5th grade

Weinstein JCC Sports & Rec staff will introduce participants to different sports and activities throughout this 8-week program. This is a great way to introduce your child to a multitude of sports and activities in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. The first half of the day will be games and activities for the kids and then we will encourage families to join in on the fun! (But not required)

Level 1: Learn to Swim

October 15 - December 10

Sundays, 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM

Ages: 5+

This class is for the first-time swimmer that doesn’t know how to swim. Skills to be taught in this level include entering and exiting the water, blowing bubbles, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front and back gliding, back floating, rolling from
front to back and back to front, treading water, alternating simultaneous arm and leg actions in front and back, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age-appropriate water safety topics.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatics Skills

October 15 - December 10

Sundays, 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM

Ages 5+

This class is for the child who can swim independently and has not mastered his/her stroke techniques. Skills to be taught include entering and exiting the water, submerging, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front, jellyfish, and tuck floating, front kicking and gliding, back kicking, and gliding, rolling from front to back and back to front, rotary breathing, treading water, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age- appropriate water safety skills.

Level 3: Stroke Development

October 15 - December 10

Sundays, 1:30 PM-2:00 PM

Ages 5+

The objectives of Learn-to-Swim Level 3 are to expand proficiency of previously learned skills by
providing additional guided practice. Participants learn and practice survival floating and learn
to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency levels. We begin
introduction of the scissors and dolphin kicks and extend the time duration for treading water.
Participants also learn rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst

from a seated position at poolside. As in all levels, new and previously addressed water safety
topics are included. Participants who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water
competency in a pool environment.

Level 4: Stroke Improvement (equivalent to Pre-Fins Beg. Novice)

October 15 - December 10

Sundays, 1:30 PM-2:00 PM

Ages 5+

In Learn-to-Swim Level 4, participants improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 (i.e., front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances and with more advanced proficiency. Participants add arm actions to the previously
learned scissors kick and breaststroke kick to perform the rudimentary sidestroke and to learn the breaststroke. Participants also begin to learn the back crawl and butterfly, as well as the basics of performing a simple open turn at a wall.

Pre-Fins Group

October 15 - December 10

Pre-fins is a great way to keep your child active this year while introducing them to Dolphin Club swim team program! Practices are coached as a hybrid between a swim team practice and group swim lessons. This gives the swimmers more personal attention from our coaches to improve their strokes, while also giving them a taste of the competitive swimming world. The Pre-fins program emphasizes learning, fitness, and fun! Pre-Fin swimmers will learn the basics of all 4 competitive strokes in an encouraging atmosphere.

Camp Games at JCC

October 16 – December 11

Weinstein JCC Sports & Rec staff will bring your child’s favorite Camp Hilbert games and activities to our Monument Avenue campus for them to enjoy all year long! These include Capture the Flag, Gaga, World Cup, Invasion, Freeze-tag and much more!

Soccer for Kids

October 17 – December 12

K-5

JCC staff will run a 45-minute clinic from 4:15 PM-5:00 PM in which participants will be taughtthe basics of soccer skills. We will focus on learning the rules of the game, basic skills, and strategies. Children in our Kids’ Place program are encouraged to participate.

Power for Kids & Teens

October 17-December 12

Ages 10-14

Power for Kids & Teens is a strength and conditioning program that is specifically designed for kids and teenagers to help them develop a lifelong love of fitness. In a group setting, children and teens participate in fun and engaging workouts that deliver measurable results and prepare them to be well-rounded athletes. This class is perfect for learning effective exercise as well as conditioning to prepare for sports seasons.

Ballet I

October 17-April 16

Tuesdays 4:40 PM-5:40 PM

Kindergarten - Age 8

Ballet technique and terminology are introduced in this beginner’s class. Students will begin to work at the barre and learn ballet positions and creative movement through music and stories. Leotard, tights, and ballet slippers required for this year-round class. The Dance Recital will be held April 21, 2024

Hip-Hop

October 19-April 18

Thursdays @ 4:30 PM - 5:15 PM

Kindergarten - Age 10

This class under the direction of Richmond Urban Dance is a class designed for students that want to learn the fundamentals of hip hop dance. It focuses on basic technique and skills, as well as learning choreography. Each class builds on the one prior. This class is for boys and girls. The Dance Recital will be held April 21, 2024.

Fall Festival at Camp Hilbert

Sunday, October 22

Spend a day enjoying the great outdoors at beautiful Camp Hilbert! Whether you want to reunite with fellow Camp Hilbert buddies or check out the camp for the first time, everyone will have fun with live entertainment, outdoor games, arts and crafts, face painting, moon bounces and canoeing and kayaking on Lake Rosalie!

Dolphin Club Swim Team

There has been something special happening here at the Weinstein JCC with the Dolphin Club Swimming program. With the “Fin Family”, athletes can experience competitive swimming in an environment that facilitates self-confidence, teaches patience throughout a process, and encourages positive relationship building.
