Kids on the Move: Winter Break Edition

Spend your winter break on the move! This exciting winter break camp is all about field trips. Departing every morning from the JCC, spending the day exploring and enjoying all that the area has to offer. Groups will be divided based on age and will take separate daily field trips. From Surge trampoline park, laser tag, bowling, and even a movie! Join us for a week of fun!

Hip-Hop

Kindergarten - Age 10

This class under the direction of Richmond Urban Dance is a class designed for students that want to learn the fundamentals of hip hop dance. It focuses on basic technique and skills, as well as learning choreography. Each class builds on the one prior. This class is for boys and girls.

Ballet I

K - Ages 8

Ballet technique and terminology are introduced in this beginner’s class. Students will begin to work at the barre and learn ballet positions and combinations through music and stories. Leotard, tights, and ballet slippers required for this year-round class.

Ages: 6-9

This popular theatre program for kids, ages 6-9, is back with a new twist! Those who long to be on the stage will love the “page to stage” experience where they will learn, rehearse and perform.  Meanwhile, those who prefer to stay behind the scenes will appreciate learning the elements of a theatre production. They will all come together to present a 30-minute version of Disney’s “The Lion King” for friends and family on the last day of the class.

Pottery Club for Kids

January 7 - March 18

The Pottery Club program is designed to introduce children to the art of clay handbuilding. Each week, students will explore new pottery techniques – pinch, coil, slab – while working on themed projects that are fun, age-appropriate and imaginative. The program emphasizes creativity, tactile learning and self-expression while giving children the excitement of taking home glazed and kiln-fire ceramic pieces they will treasure.

Kids' Night Out!

Drop off your K-5th grader for a fun Saturday night at the J! Kids can choose between swimming or games in the gym, enjoy a delicious spaghetti dinner, and indulge in an ice cream sundae party. The evening wraps up with a movie! We have dates available each month in January, February, and March. Rest easy knowing our trained Kids’ Place staff will be there to supervise throughout the night.

Jr NBA Basketball

Grades Preschool - 5

Jr. NBA is a program where children from preschool through 5th grade can focus on the fundamentals of basketball. From dribbling, passing, shooting, layups, rebounding and defense. The program instills teamwork, sports–person–ship, skill development, and most importantly FUN! The start of the season will begin with a skills evaluation so that coaches can get to know the athletes and form as balanced teams as possible. Practices and games throughout the season will be facilitated by Nick Pruden’s leadership with the support of Pro Skills’ coaches

Level 1: Learn to Swim

This class is for the first-time swimmer that doesn’t know how to swim. Skills to be taught in this level include entering and exiting the water, blowing bubbles, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front and back gliding, back floating, rolling from
front to back and back to front, treading water, alternating simultaneous arm and leg actions in front and back, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age-appropriate water safety topics.

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatics Skills

Ages 5+

This class is for the child who can swim independently and has not mastered his/her stroke techniques. Skills to be taught include entering and exiting the water, submerging, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged objects, front, jellyfish, and tuck floating, front kicking and gliding, back kicking, and gliding, rolling from front to back and back to front, rotary breathing, treading water, combining arm and leg actions on front and back and age- appropriate water safety skills.

Level 3: Stroke Development

Ages 5+

The objectives of Learn-to-Swim Level 3 are to expand proficiency of previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice. Participants learn and practice survival floating and learn to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency levels. We begin introduction of the scissors and dolphin kicks and extend the time duration for treading water. Participants also learn rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside. As in all levels, new and previously addressed water safety topics are included. Participants who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water competency in a pool environment.

Jr. Ballers w/ Coach Nick

Calling all ballers! Need to tighten up those skills for the season, or just want to learn the game? Join Coach Nick as he teaches and practices all your basketball skills! From dribbling, to passing, to shooting, and even defense, this class has what you need! We would be remiss for not mentioning the amount of fun it is going to be. We’ll see you on the court!

J-ARTS Young Creators

These introductory classes are an excellent way for your child to learn foundational Hebrew skills. Your child will be introduced to Aleph Bet, Hebrew vocabulary, and Hebrew language skills through games, stories, and hands-on learning. Two sessions each week. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to build your child’s Ivrit (Hebrew) skills. Offered as a pilot program in partnership with Temple Beth-El.

Taekwondo!

Taekwondo is a unique martial arts program that teaches kids how to move better, avoid problems, and solve challenges creatively. Instead of emphasizing fighting or competition, our preschool classes use fun, age–appropriate games that naturally build these important skills. Our preschool martial arts program is designed with young children in mind, focusing on fun, safe, and engaging activities that build both the body and mind.

Football 101

Are you ready for some football?!

Need to tighten up those skills, or just want to learn the game? Join Coach Nick as he teaches and practices the fundamentals of football! From passing, receiving, defense, and even pursuit angles and flag pulling techniques, this class has what you need! Any games or scrimmages played will be flag football format. We hope to see you on the field!

Kids Pickleball Clinic

Pickleball is for all ages! As one of the fastest growing sports in America it is never to early to learn the life skill of pickleball. This kids pickleball clinic will introduce your athlete to the basics of pickleball; including dinking, drives, serving, returns and accuracy drills. We will also start to learn about match play and understanding scoring, but with the focus on having fun!

Dolphin Club Swim Team

There has been something special happening here at the Weinstein JCC with the Dolphin Club Swimming program. With the “Fin Family”, athletes can experience competitive swimming in an environment that facilitates self-confidence, teaches patience throughout a process, and encourages positive relationship building.
