The Art of Challah Braiding

Join the community at the Weinstein JCC as we welcome Idan Chabasov, the “Challah Prince,” a famous Challah Instagram influencer for an interactive challah experience. Idan combines breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation as he works the challah dough to create intentional masterpieces of braided, edible art. 

As we prepare for the Yamimm Noraim (10 days of awe) take a moment to reflect on the cyclical nature of the Jewish calendar. Come and create a sweet round challah to take home to bake and enjoy, in honor of the upcoming Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

Born in Ethiopia, raised in Israel, and currently living in New York City, Beejhy Barhany is the owner of Tsion Café, a renowned Ethiopian-Israeli restaurant in Harlem. She is the author of Gursha: Timeless Recipes for Modern Kitchens, a cookbook celebrating the timeless recipes and rich history of Ethiopian Jewry. 

Beejhy will offer a cooking demo and discussion about Beta Israel traditions and experiences, including the upcoming holiday of Sigd, while we enjoy delicious samples from her cookbook, Gursha, prepared by the chefs and owners of local Richmond restaurant, JewFro. Kosher dietary laws observed. 

Voices In Peace
Jewish Community Choir Performance

In the Fall of 2023, Voices in Peace, the Jewish community’s inclusive choir, was created with a mission to bring together singers of different backgrounds, faiths, and identities to share in a musical experience designed to break down the barriers and build connection. Since that fateful beginning, Voices in Peace, under the direction of Natan Berenshteyn and Jamie Barrack, has performed their songs of peace throughout the community audiences totaling over 750 people and counting.

Guys and Dolls is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. When it opened on Broadway in 1950, Guys and Dolls ran for 1,200 performances, receiving nearly unanimous positive reviews from critics and winning a bevy of awards, including Tony Awards, Drama Desks and Oliviers. Frequently revived, the show has been done with numerous all-star casts, including productions/concerts featuring Ewan McGregor, Jane Krakowski, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jessica Biel. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City. Eventually everyone ends up right where they belong!
