Artist Talk and Reception: Noah Scalin's I Won't Grow Up

Thursday, September 22 @ 7PM
Gallery open from September 8 – October 28
FREE and open to the public.

After watching his daughter play with stickers, Noah was inspired to incorporate them in his own art creations. This mass-produced commercial product is a microcosm of American culture, reflecting the stories we tell ourselves and our children about our values as a society. But they also reflect the sheer mass of messaging that overwhelms us all through mass and social media daily. Rather than feeling more informed and connected, it seems we’re ever more confused and isolated. How do we see through this noise and find the signals worth amplifying? Noah’s goal is to reorganize and recontextualize these symbols into recognizable images – ones that illuminate the things we should be prioritizing when we’re so easily distracted by the spectacle of our society.

This exhibition features experimental collage works created by Noah Scalin utilizing stickers and examples of the pieces created by his daughter (when she was two years old) that inspired this body of work.
