Swimming is a lifelong skill that can open the door to many adventures. At the Weinstein JCC and Camp Hilbert pools, safety always comes first for campers and swimmers, along with a friendly and nurturing environment. Our expanded instructional swim program ensures all children gain swimming competence to last a lifetime.
Camp Ganim Swim
Ganim campers who are toilet-trained and at least 3 years old will be able to enjoy weekly swim time with their Ganim classes throughout the summer. Swimmers will be supervised by Red Cross certified JCC lifeguards, swim instructors and their camp counselors. Swim time will be led by JCC swim instructors as a hybrid between swim lessons and free play. This helps our swim program better align with the other camp activities which also promote self-exploration and growth in a safe manner. The swim instructors will guide the campers as they learn about water safety, various swim lesson tools (such as kickboards, noodles, dive rings, etc.), and various swim skills (such as kicking, scooping arms, going under the water, blowing bubbles etc.). However, the swimmers will have the chance to explore these skills at their own pace in an unstructured manner which helps provide a much more comfortable camp swim experience for each child.
We do offer private and semi-private swim lessons throughout the summer if you’d like a more structured approach to swim lessons in addition to Ganim swim.
Contact Aquatics Director, Myles Phelps, at [email protected] or (804)545-8430 to inquire about getting set up with one of experienced swim instructors.
Camp Hilbert Instructional and Free Swim
Camp Hilbert campers grades K-5 swim twice a day for instructional swim and free swim. Campers grades 6-8 participate in organized pool activities daily. New campers will be evaluated at the beginning of each week and taught to their swim level. Our swim lessons follow the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, the same that are taught at the Weinstein JCC year-round swim program.
All pool activities are supervised by a Pool Deck Supervisor as well as American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards and JCC swim instructors. All Weinstein JCC staff are required to be CPR/ First Aid/AED certified and receive ongoing training. In addition to our summer camp instructional swim times, we offer year-round private and group lessons.
Contact Aquatics Director, Myles Phelps, at [email protected] or (804)545-8430 with any questions or concerns about aquatics at Camp Hilbert.
