A Multi-Sensory Journey through Memory, Loss, and Resilience
In the face of devastation, creation becomes an act of courage.
What Hands Can Do invites you into a space where memory lives in form, sound, word, and motion. This exhibit was born from a journey to Israel in December 2024, one year after the October 7, 2023 attacks. What I witnessed — the pain, the resilience, the yearning for wholeness — demanded to be transformed into action.
Each element in this space is a response to the feeling of helplessness that often accompanies tragedy. Through physical engagement and creative reflection, this exhibit explores how art can become a tool for healing, resistance, and remembrance.
As you move through the gallery, you will encounter:
- Memorial structures inspired by the Nova Music Festival site
- Photographs paired with stories of grief, survival, and strength
- Poetic fragments woven through space like threads of memory
- A piano wrapped in yellow, playing music in honor of hostage and pianist Alon Ohel
- An interactive installation where you can tie your own ribboned wish to the fractured idea of “home”
You are not just a viewer here — you are a participant.
Tie a ribbon. Read a name. Listen deeply. Stand still.
And let your hands, too, remember what they can do.
— Pinina Morgan, Curator
