Written by Arthur Miller in 1994, Broken Glass. centers around Sylvia Gellburg, a Jewish woman in 1938 Brooklyn who suddenly becomes paralyzed after becoming obsessed with news reports of Nazi violence in Germany.
As her condition baffles doctors, it exposes the deep fractures in her marriage to her denial–prone, self–hating husband, Phillip, and the broader societal pressures of assimilation and Jewish identity in America.
The play, named after Kristallnacht, explores the profound psychological and social impact of global events on personal lives and relationships.
